It's quite hard work, because you have to stir the pot for minimum 20 minutes. It all came out really nice!
My name is Ebba and I'm in the 10:th grade in International School of Kenya. This blog is about my Community, Action and Service in Nairobi.

more washable sanitary towels
I was thinking that the flannel we use for the sanitary towels in Destiny should be dark colours. Black or red would be perfect, because there would be no stains. In Kenya it is really hard to find flannel in any other colour but pink and light blue. I asked my mom if we could dye the flannel, and sure enough, we could. She got dye colour and here is a few images of me dying the fabric.

Sponsoring for the toilet project??
I'm really happy! My mom got an e-mail from some friends who wanted to sponsor the toilet project in Destiny. I only need around 50 000 Kes, because my mom still has some money left on the Destiny account from previous fund raisers. If we get the money we need, we can start the toilet project before we leave for Europe in June. I know there are many things to fund in Destiny, but I'm thinking that black boards and chairs would be the next project. Just hoping we will get the money for the toilets so we can get that out of the way! It is so important that the students have a good sanitary situation, because it is so bad generally in Mathare, so this is really my first priority!

Delivering washable pads to Mathare
Marie giving the sanitary pads and both the girls, Rachel (volunteering in Destiny and Dixon (headmaster) loved them. The girls loved them too, and we filmed them as they got them. After, Dixon said the girls are so happy with them and that even the teachers wanted them. We are going to make many more and give them to the school. We need to get some materials from Sweden, like snap buttons that are really expensive here! We'll get them over the summer, and bring them back in August!

Volleyball tournament
During the last few weeks, we've had a lot of volleyball games. We have been winning most of them. On friday we went all the way to RVA and over the weekend we had a tournament all day at ISK. We won again. It feels good to win!

Delivering stuffed animals to the kindergarten students
My mom delivered the stuffed animals to the smaller students in Destiny school. I was holding the camera and it was sweet to see how happy the kids were to get the gifts from Sweden. I also promised to send a lot of photos to the donors!
No funding for toilets from the Swedes
I was really sad that I will not get the funds from the Swedish association to the toilets in Destiny school. It means that I have to work hard to fund them over the summer. They liked my application, but apparently there were others that was also good. Better luck next year, I guess.

Carrying teddy bears from Sweden
Coming back from Sweden, I brought big bags of teddy bears for children in Mathare. They were collected from a friends friend, who recently cleaned out her kids rooms and gave it to us. I'm going to give them to the kids as soon as I have a chance.

Första maj i Svenska skolan/May 1:st at Swedish school
Tonight we had the yearly celebration of the spring. We light a big bonfire and sing songs to celebrate that the days are getting longer and the weather is warmer. It feels a bit crazy, when we are in Kenya but it's a strong Swedish tradition. I did what I always do. Stocking up the table with drinks and collected money for hamburgers and hot dogs. The Swedish school was packed with people, and it felt good after having numerous events with few Swedes participating! I'm happy for all the money we made, and hope they will give it back to my toilet project in Destiny and happy for all the nice people I met.
