Presentation of the pad project

I made a presentation of the pad project to school. It would be really good if I can sell them in the PTO shop to raise some more money for materials. My mother also helped me to make some draw string bags so I can sell "kits". Hopefully I can get som help from school to do this. I think it would be great for all the girls in ISK to use these washable pads.

In the school

My mom brought her old friend Ann to the school. She was the one who started helping the school in Mathare, when she lived here. She is still raising a lot of money for it. I could not go with them this time, because I had my own school, but I plan to visit on a wednesday very soon. I was happy to see the images and loved to hear about the discussion buying more rooms so we can get out of the church. Next challenge: raising even more money to buy the rooms. I'll work on my e-mail list and facebook to try to raise as much money as possible. I'm happy that christmas is only a few months away. People always give a lot during christmas!

Dyeing flannel for the sanitary towels

Trying to get the right color to use for the pads. This was called "Madonna blue" but came out as "Baby blue". I was not too happy, but will use it with the "Angry birds" baby blanket I bought in Nakumatt to make more sanitary pads for the girls in Mathare.

No part in the next play

ISK is setting up Dracula. After auditioning I did not get a part. I feel bad about it, but there were only a few female parts. I hope I can do backstage work. it will take a while before I'll know. So sad they didn't plan for a play with more female parts, i know that many 9:th graders were disappointed to not get a part in the play.

Pad project

I've been thinking a lot of how to get the pad project even better. One idea I have is to teach the girls in the slums to make them and sell them. I think all the girls in ISK would love to have them because they are really effective and comfortable. I think I will have a  talk with my CASL supervisor and see if we can sell them in the PTO shop on campus. I also have to spend some time marketing them. I'm still thinking on that bit!

Many, many, many washable sanitary towels

We had a meeting with principal Dixon, before school started and we gave him about 100 sanitary towels to the girls. He told us that the girls really love them and think they're sooooo good! Even the parents came to school to ask if they could get some. He needs about a hundred more to have all the students and the staff catered for, so I guess I have to continue with the sewing... Here is an image of the different designs we had in this "batch" (getting nice fleece and dark colored flannell was easier in Sweden).

Next project in Destiny

We had long discussions about the coming projects in Destiny. The toilets, desks and black boards are done. The ministry of Education threatened to close the school if we didn't get them. After going to Sweden and UK in the summer, we managed to raise enough money to fund that. I even managed to get a lot of money from a business friend of my dad, so we're in good shape for the next project. After having a long meting with Dixon, we decided to fund buying new rooms for the school. As soon as they can get out of the church, they will save the 10.000 kes a month rent, and this is good. We need to raise some more funds to be able to buy them. My mom is going to the school next week, but I will not be able to visit because I have school at the time. Hopefully I can visit soon.

Fast punch

This is me, starting to train with Tom again. This punch is really fast, but I think I did well!
